Using Templates in Google Docs
Whichever template you decide to use, it’s important you know how to keep using it. The trick is to complete the template to the blank standard that you’d like it to be in. For example, you could add any extra state requirements to one of the templates below. Then, before you start adding the content for the lesson, navigate to File > Make a copy. That way, you’ll not ruin your original template. You can then repeat this process every time you need to make a new lesson plan.
What is a Lesson Plan
A lesson plan is a document that is used to plan for a lesson with all the details needed for the class. You can have a single lesson plan that has the details for one lesson or a weekly lesson plan which contains the schedule for the entire week. Some schools may also use term-long lesson schedules. In this case, they’re still generally accompanied by daily or weekly planners too.
A good lesson plan needs to have a well-organized form and include every aspect of the lesson. Your lesson should have the following:
- The subject details
- A summary or overview of the topic
- The learning objectives you hope to achieve at the end of the lesson
- The materials and teaching strategies needed
- The lesson activity
- Assessment to determine how well the lesson was received.
You’ll also have to make sure that you refer to any extra documentation that your school, state, country, or college/university requires. For example, when I do lesson plans, I have to refer to the Quality Teaching Framework. So, if you’re using a template, make sure to add any sections that are specific to your needs.

Step 1:Â Choose a background color
- Go to File >Â Page setup.
- Click on the color dropdown.
- Choose a color or create your own custom color.
- Click OK.
Step 2:Â Insert text boxes
- Go to Insert >Â Drawing.
- Click New.
- Click the text box icon.
- Type the content you want for the text box.
- Click save and Close
Step 3:Â Arrange the text boxes on your lesson plan template.
Once you have made enough text boxes, arrange them around the page of your template, depending on how you want it to look. You can also resize the text boxes to make them fit better.
Alternatively, you can use tables instead of text boxes.
- Go to insert > Table
- Choose the number of rows and columns
- Select all the cells in the table.
- Go to the bucket icon in the quick access toolbar and choose the color white.
- Fill the table.
With these few simple steps, you now have an editable lesson plan template in Google Docs. You can make copies of the template to use them as frequently as you want.
