Editorial Guidelines & Standards
At Spreadsheet Point, our mission is simple: to be the most reliable, clear, and practical resource for Google Sheets users on the web. Whether you are a beginner trying to sum a column or a data analyst writing complex Apps Scripts, you deserve accurate information that respects your time.
We do not work with generalist content writers. Every article, template, and formula on this site is crafted, tested, and reviewed by subject matter experts.
1. The “Expert-Only” Policy
In an era of generic content, we prioritize deep experience. Our contributors are not just writers; they are programmers, data analysts, and educators with decades of combined experience.
Our expert roster includes:
- Sumit Bansal: A Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel Expert awarded the prestigious Microsoft MVP award for his contributions to the spreadsheet community.
- Chris Daniel: A spreadsheet expert with a double Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching. Chris brings over a decade of education experience to ensure our complex formula guides are pedagogically sound and easy to learn.
- Jenna Inouye: A technical expert with a B.S. in Information & Computer Science and MCITP certification, ensuring our technical troubleshooting is accurate.
- Nahid Akhter: A programmer and course creator with an MS in Computer Science and 14+ years of experience in technical education and AI.
2. The “Human-Verified” Promise
While we utilize modern tools to help structure our research, we do not publish unverified AI-generated content.
Every formula and template is manually tested in a live environment. Our workflow ensures that:
- Formulas are Validated: Experts like Sumit and Nahid test edge cases to ensure formulas work not just in theory, but in practice.
- Logic is Sound: Our Editor, Jim Markus, reviews content for logical flow and accessibility, ensuring the “teacher’s perspective” is maintained.
- Screenshots are Current: We verify that menu paths match the current live version of Google Sheets.
3. Accuracy, Corrections & Updates
Google Sheets is constantly evolving. Features move, functions are renamed, and new tools (like Smart Canvas) are added regularly. We are committed to keeping our library up to date.
Correction Policy
We aim for 100% accuracy, but we are human. If you find an error in one of our guides, or if a formula stops working due to a software update, please let us know immediately.
- Minor Updates: We fix typos and broken links immediately upon discovery.
- Substantive Corrections: If a factual error misled readers, we will correct the article and add a note explaining the change at the bottom of the post.
To report an error, please email us at info@spreadsheetpoint.com.
4. Integrity & Objectivity
Our primary loyalty is to the user. When we recommend third-party add-ons, templates, or software, we do so because we believe they offer genuine value.
Affiliate Disclosure
Spreadsheet Point is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. However, this does not affect our editorial independence. We do not accept payment to positively review a product that we would not use ourselves.
5. Accessibility & Clarity
Data skills should be accessible to everyone. Led by editors with backgrounds in game design and education, we strive to make our content readable for all users by:
- Using high-contrast screenshots with descriptive indicators (arrows/boxes).
- Providing text-based alternatives for complex visual data.
- Writing in clear, plain English. We avoid “developer speak” unless necessary, and when we use it, we explain it.
